Writing & Producing

It all starts with imagination, ideas and the script. Creative producers and screenwriters learn to analyze and write screenplays by understanding character, structure and narrative story elements, then assemble and collaborate with key creative artists to form a combined vision through a project’s development, pre-production, production and post-production. Filmmakers will perfect both the creative and business aspects of filmmaking by enhancing and developing artistic proficiency and judgment and becoming immersed in a solid background of the entertainment industry.

Screenwriting/Producing Student Quotes:

"I had one dream when I came to film school. And that was to make one film, a real film with a studio budget that everyone would be dying to see. In my first year at school I began experimenting to see what career goal would best work for me. I learned the importance of all the trades: directing, cinematography, writing, editing. They were all essential to the creation of a film. But it was only the producer that actually made a film, from beginning to end. Though none of the specific trades interested me they all fascinated me how they came together like pieces of a clock to make the best film possible. What does the producer do? He takes all the pieces and puts them together. That’s what I want to do.

At the Colorado Films School I feel we can do anything. There are students who want to work as independent filmmakers making cutting edge indie films, there are other who want to go to Hollywood and work for a huge studio in television or film. I believe the Colorado Film School does a great job of preparing us for both."
