WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO SEE WHAT THE COLORADO FILM SCHOOL IS ALL ABOUT?
Read the Director's Letter, go on the virtual tour, watch the CFS Promo, have a look at degrees and programs, and watch student work on Vimeo and YouTube.
I ALREADY HAVE A BACHELOR'S (OR ADVANCED) DEGREE. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Until we have an MFA program in place, you should take a Certificate program through CCA. Have a look at the Advanced Immersion Program where students take 60 credits of training in 11months. This is a rigorous program, so you won’t be able to hold down a job and go to school at the same time, but it is the fastest, most thorough entry into the job market we offer.
DO I NEED A COMPUTER, CAMERA, HARD DRIVE, ETC. BEFORE I ATTEND?
We do not require that students purchase any equipment before coming to the school. If you are interested in buying equipment we recommend waiting until you begin classes so you can talk with students and teachers about the latest technologies. Although it is not required to buy any equipment we do recommend that students purchase a firewire drive such as a G-Tech with 800 firewire and 7200rpm.
Additionally if you would like to purchase a computer we recommend either the Apple Macbook Pro Laptop with a 7200rpm hard drive and 4gb ram running FCP Studio or the Apple MacPro tower with 8 core processor also with at least a 7200rpm hard drive, 6gb ram, and running FCP Studio. However, you will have more than adequate access to computer stations and software at the school.
We DO NOT recommend that students purchase their own equipment such as cameras and lights. CFS makes substantial investments to have the latest equipment and due to how quickly technology changes it is possible that any equipment you bought when you started the program would be obsolete in just a few years.
I JUST WANT PROFESSIONAL SKILLS. I DON'T WANT ANY GENERAL EDUCATION COURSES OR DEGREES. WHAT'S THE FASTEST WAY INTO THE JOB MARKET?
You should take a Certificate program through CCA. The Certificate programs include 45 credits (15, 3-credit courses). Have a look at the Advanced Immersion Program where students take 60 credits of training in 11 months. This is a rigorous program, so you won’t be able to hold down a job and go to school at the same time, but it is the fastest, most thorough entry into the job market we offer.
WHAT ABOUT JOB PLACEMENT?
Although we do not have a specific job placement service, our graduates are working in Los Angeles, New York, New Mexico, Louisiana, and across Colorado. Click here for highlights from The State of Colorado’s Creative Economy, a 2008 report commissioned by the Colorado Council on the Arts, a division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade.
Our alumni web portal and Facebook pages feature the UTA and Grapevine lists for the latest job posting for Los Angeles and New York and offer networking opportunities with faculty and alumni working in the industry throughout the world.
